Thursday Inspiration: Our Dream Projects

I feel exceptionally lucky to have built a career working with a truly stellar group of clients. I cut my PR teeth working with the likes of Warner Bros. Pictures, Starbucks, and Harry Rosen.  And since Gwen and I started Elettra six years ago, we’ve been equally blessed with a diverse client roster that includes YVR, Cadillac Fairview, Burritt Bros. Carpets, and Tsleil-Waututh Nation to name just a few. Great organizations and truly wonderful people to work with. Who could ask for more? But there is a question that we agency types get asked every once in a while: what is your dream project or client? It’s a question that bears thinking about, because it reveals a lot about one’s passions.  So I gave it some thought, and asked I Gwen and Lorna for their thoughts as well….

Simone

My dream client would be anything related to hiking, backpacking, or BC Parks. Through summer’s heat and winter’s snows, most weekends you’ll find me in one of our provincial parks, hiking up a mountainside and exploring the stunning wilderness areas of our province.

BC Parks cares for and maintains our province’s protected wilderness areas, while at the same time, making them accessible for all British Columbians. BC’s Provincial Parks are a gift. They offer something for everyone, from the most seasoned outdoors person looking for the next (im)possible peak, to the nature lover who just wants to dip a toe in the water. Spreading the word about the gift that is BC Parks would surely be mission to be proud of.

Of course, as a communicator, I'm going to take a quick moment to highlight a couple of BC Parks’ great communications tools.  Their Facebook page shares information, contests, and loads of inspirational photos. The BC Parks website is also a wealth of information with maps, timely trail reports (my personal favourite), a camping reservation system, and even volunteer opportunities.

So check it out….and then get out there and enjoy BC’s Parks!

 

Gwen

Gwen’s dream client is also related to her favourite pastime…sailing. Gwen and her husband, Will, have sailed for years, both competitively and recreationally. And now Gwen’s young children, Gavin and Marina, are also getting out on the boat. In fact, the whole Hardy family is currently spending their vacation drifting through the beautiful waters of the Georgia Strait.

Gwen often wonders why, when we live in such a beautiful coastal setting, are so few people actively out on the water? A dream project for Gwen would be around the promotion of boating to the general public and the creation of more ways for people to get out on the water.

Gwen believes that, if more people actually got on out the water, they would better understand the need to protect it for future generations of boaters (and really, for everyone who lives on the coast). But the great news on that score is that we already have a client who is working on just that mission in our region – the Georgia Strait Alliance! Check out the great work on they do with their Clean Marine BC program.

 

Lorna

Here's a little known fact about Lorna - she used to rub shoulders with the rich and famous each May at the Cannes International Film Festival. There she would relentlessly chase celebrity interviews and attend parties and premieres on behalf of newspapers in her native Northern Ireland.

Lorna’s big passion is cinema and she loves the excitement and buzz of hugely publicized international festivals like Venice and Cannes – not to mention the glamour and the free champagne! Lorna has had the pleasure of meeting and interviewing cult directors such as Roger Corman and David Lynch as well as some of Hollywood’s hottest hunks – including Michael Fassbender, George Clooney, and Gael Garcia Bernal.

Lorna’s dream client would be an international film festival such as TIFF or VIFF where she could really put her knowledge of cinema to creative use and use her combined journalistic and PR skills to help champion low budget independent films on an international stage.
